About the Downtown Sakura Festival

In celebration of spring and the more than 450 cherry blossom trees that bloom along the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in downtown Akron, the 4th annual Downtown Akron Sakura Festival is a free event that will bring together the city of Akron and Japanese culture.

The cherry blossom trees were planted in 2011 and 2012 by the Japanese Association of Northeast Ohio (JANO) in partnership with the city of Akron. The work it took to plant the trees symbolizes “the hearts of the Japanese people and creates a place of relaxation for people of all regions.”

Presented by Downtown Akron Partnership (DAP) and JANO, the festival will feature art demonstrations, food and drink like sushi and sake, traditional Japanese music, a bike ride, and a story walk

There will also be craft activities like origami and Ikebana, which is Japanese flower arranging. Kimono and bonsai vendors will be there, too!

Events will take place along the Towpath Trail in downtown Akron, Mustill Store, Ohio & Erie Canal Park, Locks 1-3, and the Towpath Trailhead at Spaghetti Warehouse.

Please visit the website and/or social media for up-to-date schedules and operating hours for this event.
